Chains Of Lakes

Since 2023, I’ve been making sure I get the most for my clients across the San Francisco area. Whether you’re a buyer, seller, renter or investor, I’ve got all the tools, the experience, and the determination you need to help you find your next property.

Harris Chain Lakes

The Seven Harris Chain Lakes are: Big and Little Harris, Dora, Carlton, Beauclair, Eustis and Griffin. Lake Yale is technically part of the Harris Chain, but is not accessible from the other lakes. Lake Apopka near Orlando is the head waters of the Chain. These lakes are part of the Florida Ocklawaha Basin which drains Central Florida to the north through the St Johns River entering the Atlantic Ocean at Jacksonville The lakes are a fisherman and boaters paradise. Local bass fishing tournaments are held on a weekly basis and the Harris Chain is now a popular stop on the ESPN B.A.S.S. Tournament Trail with its great fishing highlighted on many outdoor TV shows.

Lake Eustis

7,806 acre Lake Eustis is the center lake in the vast Harris Chain of Lakes. The lake and the adjacent city on its northeast shore were named after General Abraham Eustis, a hero of the civil war and the first and second Seminole wars. The lake is approximately 4 miles wide and 5 miles long. Lake Harris can be accessed through the "Dead River" in the south west corner of Lake Eustis. Dead River is the old Florida name for a river that connects two lakes with no current.

Lake Dora

Lake Dora is the most prestigious of the Harris Chain Lakes. This is due to the fact that the historic lakefront town of Mount Dora sits on its eastern shore. Mount Dora was settled in the 1860s and many of it's historic buildings are still standing. The Mount Dora Art Festival attracts over 200,000 people to this one event. Numerous other fairs, festivals and shows are held at this popular tourist destination. Side walk cafes, antique shops and upscale restaurants are open to visitors year round. A highly recommended ritual is to have an evening drink on the back deck of the Pisces Rising Restaurant. Here visitors and locals alike share a drink and view the incredible sunsets over Lake Dora. Little Lake Harris has numerous canals with reasonably priced waterfront homes. The development of Lake Harris Shores has the deepest canals in the chain at well over 8 feet deep. The picturesque town of Howey-in-the-Hills is located on the western shore of Little Lake Harris. Howey is also the location of the well known Mission Inn Resort with its two outstanding golf courses, on-site tennis pro, lakeside marina, upscale restaurants and luxury homes.

Lake Harris

Big and Little Lake Harris combined cover over 16,000 acres of water. Little Lake Harris contains all the water east of the Howey Bridge. The water west of the bridge is considered Big Lake Harris. Little Lake Harris is mostly undeveloped and is very popular with fishermen and kayakers. A spring in the back of Double Run makes for a beautiful boat trip and causes the water clarity in this lake to be considerably clearer than the rest of the Chain. Royal Harbor at the top of Little Lake Harris is a popular waterfront retirement community with approximately 700 homes

Lake Yale

Lake Yale, is the only large Harris Chain lake that is not accessible from the rest of the Harris Chain of Lakes. The Yale Canal connecting Lake Griffin was sealed off many years ago. Lake Yale is approximately five miles long and 3 miles wide at the center. Boat traffic on the lake is minimal and the setting is generally private, which is it's appeal. Fishing pressure is much less than the rest of the chain, giving Lake Yale a reputation for quiet solitude and excellent fishing.

Lake Yale is a sleeper in the world of Florida lakefront homes and real estate. It size, natural setting and natural surroundings are hard to beat.  A extensive nature area is located on the north shore of Lake Yale. There are a few lakefront homes on Lake Yale along the south and west sides. When one comes on the market, it usually sells quickly.

Lake Griffin

Lake Griffin is the last lake in the Harris Chain of Lakes. The lake level is controlled by two locks, one on Haines Creek and the other at the top of the lake at Moss Point near Highway 42. Lake Griffin is the most natural of the Harris Chain lakes. The lake is approximately 7 miles long with minimal development. Harbor Hills, a large lakefront golf course community is located on the west side of the lake. Harbor Shores has some canal homes, but no direct lakefront homesites.

The City of Leesburg, just south of the lake, has upscale waterfront homes on Beverley Point. The popular Leesburg Bike Festival draws thousands of Bikers annually. Leesburg has been a popular retirement destination for many years. Because of this fact, older homes and trailer parks are numerous on the lake. Real estate is generally more affordable on Lake Griffin than the rest of the Chain due to it's distance from Mount Dora and the fact that you must navigate the lock to boat to the rest of the chain.
